المستخلص: The History of Assyrians was marked by cruelty and violence, which dominated over all aspects of the political life, and became a prominent hallmark of that time. This study will present this phenomenon in a different perspective by trying to answer the following questions: 1- What are the different ways of punishment that the Assyrians used against other people and their allies? 2- What are the reasons behind such diversity in punishment? 3- Was it based upon a previous knowledge and awareness of the traditions and customs of those people? 4- -Was it the fact that the assyrians were aware that humiliating the enemy and treating him vehemently would have a strong impact upon the psychology of the enemy? We see that answering on these questions should not be based on mere hypotheses and assumptions, but rather by careful understanding of the traditions and customs of the concerned people, which in turn has led to fruitful results.
