تميز أهل السنة بموقفهم الثابت من النص، حيث جعلوه أصلهم ومعولهم، منه يتعلمون، وبه يستدلون، وإليه يرجعون، بحيث وصار كل ما سوى النص مردوداً إليه، غير مقدم بين يديه. أما أهل الأهواء فأتوا إلى النص؛ ليقودوه إلى مقررات سابقة حدودها، ونظروا إلى النص في ضوئها، فالنص عندهم مسبوق لا سابق ومقود لا قائد، وتلونت معارضة النص بحسب مصدر كل طائفة في التلقي. فالمتكلمون قدموا عليه عقولهم، ومنحرفو الصوفية قدموا كشوفهم، وغلاة المقلدين قدموا أقوال معظميهم. سطر العلماء في بيان حقيقة هذا الفرق المنهجي كلمات نفيسة، تنبئ عن عميق معرفتهم بمأخذ الاستدلال السليم من الفاسد. ونصوا على أن المسلك الباطل في التعامل مع النص أمر يشترك فيه أهل الأهواء كافة، حتى صار هو الفرقان بين أهل الحق وأهل الباطل. ونظراً لعظم شأن هذا الفرق المنهجي فقد ترتبت عليه نتائج كبيرة، من أبرزها اشتداد عناية أهل السنة بالنصوص رواية ودراية، حتى صاروا هم المرجع فيها، مع سلامتهم من أي انتماء باطل؛ لأنهم إنما ينتمون إلى النص، مما أوجد لديهم الألفة والاتفاق. أما خصومهم فكانوا بضد ذلك، حيث شرقوا بكل نص مخالف، وأظهر تعاملهم مع الدليل بعدهم عن المنهج العلمي، مع وقوعهم في انتماءات باطلة فرقت الأمة وأضعفتها في القديم والحديث.
Ahl al-Sunnah are known for their firm stand on the Text (Nass) because it is their source of knowledge and they depended on it. From it they learn, their opinions and views are based on it and they always revert to it. Any matter not derived from they turn down. On the other side, the followers of Inclinations also refer to the Text but they mold its meanings to their pre-occupied opinions. The Text does not lead them. They lead the Text to their views. Every sect has his own definition of the Text. The Scholastics preferred rationalism to the Text, he Sufis gave their inner findings priority over it and the extremist followers prefer the views of their scholars. Muslim scholars wrote very good words to explain the truth of this methodical difference, which reflects their deep knowledge of right derivation from the wrong one. They mentioned that all types of the followers of inclinations are same in deriving wrong conclusion from the text. This clearly shows difference between followers of the truth and followers of the false. Due to importance this methodical difference has, a number of results have come out. One of them is that the followers of Sunnah have given due care to the meaning and narration of text. Therefore, they became the sole reference for it. They are saved from being deviated from the right because they strictly follow the text which inculcated in them unity and closeness. On the other hand, their opponents were on different side. They followed every opposite text and their thinking exposed their deviation from the academic methodology. They have become prey of false ideologies that have destroyed the unity of Ummah in the past and present time.
