Elections constitute a political phenomenon uncovering structures of power and a network of relations between various political players. Therefore, analyzing election tracks and results help understanding political interactions between the state and the society which will produce the next form of ruling.(or better yet.... Next form of government.) The present report reviews the main features of the recent Egyptian elections, mainly the rise of Islamists and the great decline of liberalists and socialists. The state was clearly capable of conducting the elections in spite of all the circumstances in the transitional stage. On the other hand, the electorates showed significant awareness of the rival political parties. Another major factor was the obvious will of mainstream Egyptians to break off all relations with the old regime. There are still several challenges facing the transitional phase, but the main issue is the growing state of fluidity along with the absence of tough legal frameworks. In addition, it is very hard to secure general agreement on major questions associated with the nature and identity of the state. Thus, it is necessary for all parties to make mutual concessions in a bid to alleviate the escalating political crisis.
