تعد الضغوط النفسية من العوائق التي تحد من أن يؤدي الحكام أدائهم على أكمل وجه في ظل وجودها، ونظرا لكون الصحافة الرياضية تهتم بكرة القدم ومن ضمنهم الحكام وتفرد لهم تغطيات واسعة، فإنها تتسبب في ظهور الضغوط النفسية لدى الحكام، وتكمن أهمية البحث في كونه أحد البحوث النادرة في اليمن والتي تسعى لمعرفة الضغوطات النفسية التي تسببها الصحافة الرياضية على حكام الدرجة الأولى لكرة القدم في الدوري اليمني، ولكونه أحد المواضيع التي لم تحظى باهتمام الباحثين في اليمن- في حدود علم الباحث- ولهذا فيكتسب أهميته من هذا المنطلق، كما يسعى لتحديد رؤية مناسبة لمواجهة الضغوط النفسية التي تسببها الصحافة الرياضية على الحكام والخروج بحلول ملائمة. وهدف البحث الذي استخدم المنهج الوصفي للكشف عن أهم العوامل التي تسبب الضغوط النفسية من قبل الصحافة الرياضية لدى الحكام، مستخدما المقياس الذي صممه الباحث والمتكون من (50) عبارة، والذي تم تطبيقه على عينة البحث والبالغ عددهم (62) حكماً. ومن نتائج الدراسة الميدانية تتبين عدم وجود فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية في درجة الضغوط النفسية التي تسببها الصحافة الرياضية على الحكام حسب سنهم. بمعنى أن جميع الحكام يتأثرون بالضغوط النفسية بحسب سنهم، غير أنه لا توجد فروق دالة إحصائياً في ذلك التأثير. وتمثلت أهم التوصيات في ضرورة التركيز على الجوانب النفسية للحكام إلى جوار الجوانب البدنية والفنية بالذات عند اختيار الحكام المستجدين، أو الترفيع أو في دورات الصقل، وتدريبهم على استخدام الوسائل الملائمة والمناسبة لمقاومة الضغوط النفسية خصوصاً تلك المتعلقة بالصحافة الرياضية. مع توفير أخصائي ومرشد نفسي للحكام، وكذا استقطاب العناصر شابة عند اختيار الحكام. \
