الفن الشعبي هو خليط من الفنون النفعية التي نحتاج إليها في حياتنا اليومية، وقد كان الفن الشعبي طوال العصور يسير جنباً إلى جنب مع الفن الرسمي، والتراث العربي غني بالفنون الشعبية، مثل الأدب والغناء والموسيقى والفنون التشكيلية والزخرفية...الخ وهذه الفنون تكشف عن قدرات ومهارات الفنان الشعبي الذي ينفذها في بساطة ويسر. وقد كان الفنان الشعبي هو التيار الصحي الذي تحتفظ الجماهير العريضة من خلاله بضميرها الفني وحسها الجمالي وبخاصة عندما تضعف الدولة وتنحصر عنها قدراتها الإبداعية في فنون الحاكمين، وفي هذه الفترات تقل سطوة التقاليد الفنية الرسمية وتزداد طلاقة الفنون التي تقترب من الفنون الشعبية التي تعكس أشكالاً وموضوعات مستمدة من التراث أو من الأساطير أو من ذكريات غامضة تسللت عبر سنوات طويلة منحدره من جيل إلى جيل نعرف مدلولها وقد لا نعرفه. وتتميز الفنون الشعبية باستخدام الخامات المحلية والوحدات التي نستمدها من البيئة. فالتراث والمأثورات التراثية بشكلها ومضمونها أصيلة إلا أن فروعها تتطور وتتوسع مع مرور الزمن وبنسب مختلفة وذلك بفعل التراكم الثقافي والحضاري وتبادل التأثر والتأثير بالثقافات والحضارات الأخرى وعناصر التغيير والحراك في الظروف الاجتماعية لكل مجتمع. وبناء علي ذلك كان هذا البحث محاولة للجمع بين التقنيات الحديثة باستخدام الحاسب الآلي وبين المأثورات التراثية متمثلة في زخارف الفن الشعبي لاستحداث تصميمات مبتكرة منفذة بأكثر من أسلوب إنتاج تكنولوجي (نسيج- تريكو لحمة) لأحياء هذا التراث وحمايته من أخطار الاندثار وفقدان الهوية وبما يتواكب مع المتغيرات العصرية لأنه لا حضارة بدون تراث.
