لعبت ظاهرة العولمة دورا مؤثرا في تعظيم حجم منظمات المجتمع المدني وتحديد نوعية الأدوار المعاصرة التي تؤديها في تنمية المجتمع، وهي أدوار تختلف - إلي حد كبير - عما كانت تقوم به هذه المنظمات في الماضي، مما يؤكد حدوث تغييرات كبري في طبيعتها. وإذا كانت الدراسة محاولة لفهم التحولات والتغيرات البنائية والوظيفية التي أصابت المجتمع المبني من جراء ظاهرة العولمة، فإنها تنبه - أيضا - إلي ضرورة تعزيز دور منظمات المجتمع المدني في الوطن العربي لمواكبة تلك التحولات والتغيرات.
Globalization and its relationship to civil society has recently been a topic of great concern in many studies and writings, especially in the field of social sciences. However, reviewing such literature reveals numerous discrepancies related to the interpretation of the concept of globalization and civil society, including the complexity of their relationship. Therefore, the study tries to present an understanding of the influence that globalization has had upon the contemporary civil society, especially in shaping its trends and characteristics. The paper also argues that Arab civil society must be given the political and social opportunity to become more influential in its society. This will definitely help achieve the hope of a healthy society which is able to meet contemporary and future challenges such as poverty, unemployment, crime, fundamentalism, terrorism, and environmental pollution, as well as the deterioration of freedom and democracy.
