تطرق الباحث في مقدمة بحثه إلى سبق حضارة وادي الرافدين على حضارات العالم، وان من بين مجالات ذلك السبق المجال الأدبي الذي تقف ملحمة جلجامش في المقدمة منه. وقد أسهمت الملحمة في التعريف بجلجامش وبقوته وشجاعته وبطشه بأعدائه، فضلا عن مهارته في استخدام مختلف أنواع الأسلحة، إلى جانب إجادته للمصارعة. وأشار الباحث إلى إن الصفات البدنية والمهارية التي تميز بها جلجامش لا تكتسب من فراغ بل هي نتيجة لتدريب متواصل. وتلخصت مشكلة البحث في إن دور الرياضة في حياة بطلا الملحمة لم يتناوله احد من الباحثين على الرغم من أهميته. أما.... هدفا البحث فكان أولهما التعرف على عناصر اللياقة البدنية التي تحلى بها بطلا الملحمة، وثانيهما التعرف على الجوانب المهارية التي تميز بها بطلا الملحمة. وعرض الباحث ما دارت حوله الملحمة، ومن هم أبطالها، وعرض الشواهد التي تدلل على الصفات البدنية التي تحلى بها جلجامش وانكيدو، والشواهد التي تبين مهارتهما في المصارعة وفي استخدام مختلف أنواع الأسلحة كالسيف والفأس والقوس والكنانة إلى جانب السباحة والغوص والتجديف. وكانت ابرز الاستنتاجات التي توصل لها الباحث إن ما تمتع به جلجامش من صفات بدنية وإمكانات مهارية كانا نتيجة لتدريب طويل الأمد، وان ذلك التطور تم بفضل مناهج تدريبية تستوعب دور كل صفة ومكانها، وان جلجامش استخدم وبكفاءة عالية عناصر اللياقة البدنية وعلى وفق ما يتطلبه كل موقف، وان يميزه المهاري في استخدام الأسلحة هو تميز غير اعتيادي لثقل وزن الأسلحة التي كان يستخدمها، وان الصراعات والرحلات التي قام بها لم تكن تقليدية أبدا لكونها كانت ضد أبطال ووحوش لأقبل لأحد بمواجهتهم، وضد طبيعة لم يتصدى لها بشر من قبل. \
