This research studied a symposium of literary seminar in the city of Hilla which is (Al-Merjaniya Symposium). This symposium was founded in the mid-seventies of the last century. The owner of this symposium is the writer (Mahmoud Hassan Merjan), but visitors to this symposium are diverse, some clergy, teachers, carpenters, and lawyers. The symposium marked remoteness from the policy of the governing ruler positively and negatively. Thus it is able to continue and held its symposium away from the problems and political obstacles. The fellows of this symposium were far from the ruling power, and vice versa. The intellectual trend for this symposium characterized by the preservation and religious commitment; while from the critical aspect, the trend of symposium was towards "inherent old poetry,” and thus the symposium able to revive the old poetry purposes such as panegyric, elegy, praise books, and history of poetry. The symposium also returns back life to the old poetic arts such as terza rima, hemistich, quintupling, item, and poetry pastiche. Thus this symposium maintained on the Arab poetic heritage, and performs simulation of its purposes and the arts of ancient poetry.
