المستخلص: the present study is specified to show the phonetic changes for the sound /alqaf/ in Nassirya city. We tried hard to discuss the opinions of the traditional and the recent linguists of the phonetic substitution for that sound. The research has reached at some conclusions and scientific facts .For example, the phonetic development of /alqaf/ sound in Nassirya is considered a part of the phonetic development which affected that sound in the ancient Arab dialects, where the accent of this city is considered as extension of these ancient tribal dialects. We also found that the phonetic development of /alqaf/ sound in Nassirya city happened because of the linguistic development that happens in dialects generally; that is because the dialect could be developed in its sounds, vocabulary, meaning and grammar. But we find that the phonetic development of sounds happened by itself in an automatic way with no interference of human will. That is why we found the /k/ sound is changed in pronunciation into four sounds (/alkaf/, /algain/ , /algeem/ , /algaf/) . And the inclination to the voicing of sounds in some words, or the inclination to the voiceless sound in some other words might be the main reason behind that substitution, in addition to the closeness in articulation between the sound substituted for and the substituting sound. Also, the research showed that many substituted sounds in the current dialect of Nassirya city have roots in the ancient linguistic heritage.
