يرى بعض أعلام اللغة العربية في نيجيريا أن المقالة بوصفها فنا من فنون النثر لا توجد في الإنتاجات الأدبية للعلماء النيجيريين (Oseni,2002,p232)، والحال أن هناك كتب منشورة ومجلات تصدر في نيجيريا تشتمل على مقالات رائعة، وهناك مناسبات أدبية علمية تلقي فيها مقالات رائعة مؤثرة. وتناقش هذه المقالات عدة موضوعات في شتى ميادين الحياة والمعرفة. وتتطلب هذه الظاهرة النظر والمعالجة، ولذلك حاول هذا البحث كشف اللثام عن الحقيقة الكامنة وراء هذا الزعم بعدم وجود فن المقالة. ولتحقيق ذلك قسمنا الورقة إلى خمسة أقسام بعد المقدمة، فالقسم الأول عبارة عن التعريف بنيجيريا، والقسم الثاني يناقش اللغة العربية في نيجيريا، وركز القسم الثالث على دراسة نشأة المقالة وتطورها في نيجيريا، والقسم الرابع تعرض أنواع المقالة ونماذجها وجاءت الخاتمة في القسم الخامس الأخير وهي خلاصة ما في البحث. \
This paper discusses speech making as an art of prose writing in Arabic literature in Nigeria. It is discovered, however, that Art of speech making commenced in Nigeria from the Colonial Era with an imitation of Arabs in their speech making and subsequently developed into the height of creativity, originality and qualitative beauty. The factors that aid this development are establishments of formal Arabic schools, higher Arabic and Islamic institutions and universities that offer Arabic as a course of study. Other factors also include publication of academic journals, periodicals, Arabic magazines and composition books. Others are organizing of Islamic social gatherings and ceremonies and remembrance of Islamic historic events which arouse the feelings of Arabic literary scholars and gear them towards composing prose and poetry. The themes of this art cover the fields of literature, politics, social system, economy, education, sport, science and others. Initially, it was characterized with badi’iyyaat aspect of rhetoric, but later it graduates into simple, well-constructed and captivating expressions as a result of interaction between Nigerian scholars and their Arab counterparts through student exchange, modem books and references and through information technologies. The paper, in its conclusion, recommends the floating of an Arabic daily newspaper. This would surely further improves the quality and quantity of art of speech making in Arabic in Nigeria.
