المستخلص: عندما ركب الشاب (فولني) البحر من مرسيليا في كانون الأول عام 1782 متوجها الى الشرق، كان رحالة متواضعا، صحته هشة وشخصيته حذرة ولم يكن ذائع الصيت. توجه نحو الشرق دون سند ولا عون، حيث أقام هناك مدة ثلاث سنوات. وبعد عامين من عودتة الى فرنسا، قام الرحالة بنشر كتاب شامل عن مصر و سوريا بعنوان: "الرحلة الى مصر وسوريا"، حيث لاقى هذا الكتاب نجاحا سريعا. وبفضل وفرة معلوماته وحداثة ملاحظاته، أصبح (فولني) نموذج "الرحالة الفيلسوف" الذي يقتدى به. \\ يهدف هذا البحث الى دراسة رحلة (فولني) الى سوريا على وجه التحديد لأنها تشكل معينا لا ينضب من الوثائق عن سوريا. لقد أثار هذا الكتاب اهتمامنا لما يحتويه من موضوعات هامة ومتنوعة، ولأنه يلقي الضوء على جوانب خفية من عادات السوريين وتقاليدهم وأعرافهم ومؤسساتهم المختلفة. \\ ان هذه الدراسة تهدف للاجابة عن الأسئلة التالية: ما طبيعة علاقة (فولني) مع الآخر (الشرقي)؟ والى أي حد تمكن الكاتب من ضبط هذه العلاقة؟ وكيف جسد الكاتب الخطاب العلمي المزعوم الذي لجأ اليه وسيلة لنقل انطباعاته؟ وما الوظيفة الدقيقة التي ملأها الخطاب الناقد لنظام الحكم المستبد في سوريا في تلك الحقبة؟ وما الأساليب البديعية والنحوية التي لجأ اليها الكاتب حتى يضمن تجانس النص وتساعد على تحديد مشروع (فولني) بجلاء؟ \\

When the young man (Volney) sailed from Marseille in December 1782 heading for the east, he was a modest traveler with a fragile health and was unknown with a careful personality. He headed east without any help or support where he stayed for three years. After his return to France, he published a comprehensive book about Egypt and Syria under the title “Voyage to Egypt and Syria”, which was immediately recognized as a successful book and due to abundant and recent information, Volney had become the model of “the philosopher- traveler”, to be followed. \\ This research aims at studying Volney’s travel to Syria in particular, because it is a very rich reservoir of documents about Syria. This book has drawn our attention due to what it has of various and important topics and because it sheds light on some unrevealed Syrian customs, traditions and various institutions. \\ Thus, this study aims at answering the following questions: \\ -\\\ What is the nature of Volney`s relation with the other (the Oriental)? \\ -\\\ To what extent could the author control this relation? \\ -\\\ How did the author embody the pretended scientific discourse that he resorted to in order to convey his impressions? \\ -\\\ What is the precise function of the critical discourse against the tyrant regime in Syria during that era? \\ -\\\ What are the stylistic and syntactic devices used by the author to ensure the text coherence and help specify Volney`s project with clarity? \\

Peu fortuné, de santé fragile et de caractère prudent, le jeune Volney qui s’embarque à Marseille en décembre 1782 est un voyageur modeste et inconnu. Sans grands appuis, il part pour l’Orient où il séjournera durant trois années. En 1787, deux ans après son retour, il publie un ouvrage de synthèse sur l’Egypte et la Syrie, intitulé Voyage en Egypte et en Syrie, qui connaît un succès immédiat. Par l’ampleur et la nouveauté de son constat, Volney devient l’archétype du philosophe-voyageur. Le récit de voyage de Volney en Syrie constitue une mine inépuisable de documents sur le pays. Il nous intéresse par l’actualité des thèmes qu’il traite et les lumières qu’il jette sur les coutumes, les mœurs, les traditions et les institutions en Syrie. L'étude du texte de Volney visera alors de répondre aux questions suivantes: \\ -\\\ Le rapport à l'altérité oriental: comment cette altérité est-elle appréhendée? \\ -\\\ Comment la prétention à un discours de type scientifique est-elle concrétisée dans le texte? \\ -\\\ Quelle fonction précise le despotisme remplit-il dans le discours de Volney? \\ -\\\ Quels sont les procédés stylistiques et syntaxiques qui assurent la cohérence du texte et dont le repérage permet de cerner plus clairement le projet de Volney? \\
