This study aims at discovering the environmental aspects in the pre – Islamic poet during his discussion about the struggle of the ox and the hunter with his hounds. We tackled first the discussion about this struggle as far as ancient criticism is concerned. We talked then in the study the explanation of this struggle in so many modern critics those who have a great tendency towards legends in the study of the poetry of pre – Islamic era. We explained also the effect of the rural environment in the poet's ideas and how they talked about this struggle through our own analysis for two poetic samples containing and struggling portrait which consists of the hunter and his hounds whereas the second one consists of wild ox. This shows us how the ancient critics never refer to the struggle as not having what is so–called a legendary source. We find out also that the modern critics enforce this legendary explanation in a way that makes them pretend to have forgotten that the environment has a great effect in versing, in addition, we also find out that the image of the struggle, though it depends entirely on the environment, yet it functions in any text in a similar way.
