The present book consists of the papers, discussions and comments of the 20th annual meeting of the studies of democracy in Arab countries. It was held at prominent Oxford University on July 24, 2010 and titled Democratic Parties’ Concept and Parties’ Reality in Arab Countries. The discussion started by covering the importance, ways and conditions of building democratic parties in the Arab countries. At that time, it did not seem likely to witness any deep democratic change in any of these countries, for the political reality was hardly reparable. So, it was concluded that it was significant to practice democracy within Arab parties as well as form them on true democratic bases. The way will, then, be paved for political reform. The book consists of 2 parts, the first of which presents the papers of the meeting in 6 sections: - Standards and Indicators of a Democratic Party - Democracy in Egyptian Parties: Internal Construction vs. Surrounding Milieu - Democracy vs. Partisanship Dialectic under Colonization: Palestinian Factions Case - Algeria: Confused Partisanship - Yemen: Reform of Parties or Government? - How to Build Democratic Parties in Undemocratic States? On the other hand, the second part contains the papers which weren’t presented in the meeting.
