|b The ‘empty stomachs’ battle shifted from an individual one to a collective confrontation by all prisoners in the Israeli occupation jails starting on 17 April, 2012, challenging the arrogance of the prison administration, which had been torturing and violating their basic rights. They announced that they would go on with the strike until they martyrize or force the occupation to achieve their legal demands, mainly those mentioned below. \ The battle represented a national unity stage made up and supported by various Palestinian factions and bodies, whether in prison or in the street. The interaction was seen in the forms of growing demonstrations, performing Friday prayers and holding sit-in tent. These activities took place before the International Red Cross, Prisoner’s Club and Israeli checkpoints as well as in central public squares. \ The 28-day strike came to an end with the meeting of all prisoners’ demands, especially the following: \ - Taking out all isolated prisoners from solitary confinement \ - Allowing Gazan prisoners’ relatives to visit them \ - Stopping the execution of what is called “Shalit Law” \ - Agreeing with administrative detainees, by either preparing a indictment against them or releasing them at the end of their administrative sentence.
