Observers agree that the Palestinian cause has been witnessing a long state of freeze at all levels. However, a number of West Bank cities saw several demonstrations early September 2012 against the rise in prices. In its turn, Israel was concerned of these developments, which might lead to further civil unrest against the Palestinian Authority, collapse of Fateh’s domination in the region and the outbreak of a third uprising against Israel. Therefore, Palestinian, Israeli and international parties intervened to calm the protests. On the other hand, the unrest displayed the reality of the diplomacy adopted by the PA, being unable to put an end to the occupation and stop its internal forms of administrative and financial corruption. It also gives no way for any other political or social power to rise and compete with its own approaches and interests, or get involved in any confrontation with the occupation. Hence, it has become necessary, from a Palestinian perspective, to change this failure course into a comprehensive national programme, along with an agreed-upon strategy of resistance to, instead of cooperation with, the occupation. A minimum state of consensus would result in the restoration of rights, but without linking Palestinian resources and economy to the Israelis. Otherwise, the status quo will continue. Even if some ‘tranquilizers’ are given here and there, they would just postpone the explosion, for it seems through analyzing the reality that the “Palestinian spring” is not far away anymore.
