The Arab World witnessed a strategic shift in which some regimes changed completely, some were obliged to introduce political or economic reforms and others were pushed to raise the income of its public sector staff, mainly the security departments. In the meantime, people from all levels quickly became more aware of common political concepts, especially concerning democracy and the accountability of a ruler and their assistants. Therefore, some writers as well as political powers and ruling elites found a common interest of countering this process. They started to provide themselves and the media with a partial, pessimistic view and focus on the challenges facing the change. Such outlooks led to unrealistic policies. The present editorial stresses the importance of briefing the public on the accomplishments in detail as well as the difficulties. The society’s experiences and capabilities must be invested. Furthermore, support must be offered to objective academic efforts to explore the change process and its future, in a bid to enable laymen, politicians and the cultured to think rightly away from the deformation aimed to hamper the current reform programme. In conclusion, different parties have to find a serious way to distinguish between facts and illusions in the present change process. Ultimately, the people must be the source of power. Any guardianship or confusion of the role of the people has become history.
