تطرق الباحثان في مقدمة البحث إلى الجانب النفسي وأهميته في المجال الرياضي وتتمثل بالتوجه نحو المنافسة الرياضية وتأثيرها على اللاعبين المتقدمين بكرة السلة وكرة الطائرة في حين تضمنت مشكلة البحث إن هناك ضعفاً واضحاً لدى أغلب المدربين من حيث عدم القدرة على تحديد قابليات اللاعبين وقدراتهم والعوامل المؤثرة في تطوير مستوياتهم وبالتالي فقدان المثابرة نحو المنافسة الرياضية. أما الدراسات النظرية ومنها التوجه نحو المنافسة الرياضية . في حين استعمال الباحثان المنهج الوصفي بأسلوب المسح والعلاقات الارتباطية حيث تكون مجتمع البحث على (238) لاعباً بكرة القدم وبلغت عينته على (151) لاعباً، في حين بلغ عدد لاعبي كرة السلة على (82) لاعباً يمثلون مجتمع البحث أما عينتهم فقد بلغت (67) لاعباً وبهذا أصبح مجتمع البحث يتكون من(320) لاعباً. فقد تطرق الباحثان على عرض وتحليل ومناقشة النتائج، فقد وجد الباحثان إن هنالك فروق معنوية بين التوجه نحو المنافسة الرياضية ولاعبي كرة القدم وهي أفضل من العلاقة بين التوجه نحو المنافسة الرياضية ولاعبي كرة السلة وبهذا فقد أوصى الباحثان على أهمية التركيز على التوجه نحو المنافسة الرياضية وخاصة أثناء المنافسات الرياضية . \
