إن الحقيقة التي يمكن أن تثيرها هذه الشجرة، هي البعد الدلالي الذي يفرض نفسه في هذا المجال، فالعراق مهد الحضارات التي يمتد عمرها إلى آلاف السنين، فأول حضارة ظهرت كانت على ارض الرافدين، كما إن تاريخ أشجار النخيل يمتد إلى أعماق سحيقة في التاريخ؛ إذ هي قديمة قدم الإنسان، ويذكر أن أقدم ما عرف عن النخيل كان في بابل التي يمتد عمرها إلى حوالي أربعة آلاف سنة قبل الميلاد، فالنخلة اقترن اسمها بالعراق، ويأتي العراق في المرتبة الأولى بين دول العالم من حيث انتشار النخيل فيه. كما تعد النخلة رمزا للعراق ذي الحضارة والشموخ، كشموخ نخيله من بين الأنواع الأخرى من الأشجار. وقد وردت الإشارة إلى النخلة في مسلة حمورابي، التي خصصت عددا من موادها لحماية أشجار النخيل والحفاظ عليها من عبث العابثين، فوضعت غرامة على من يقطع نخلة. فالعراق والنخلة لفظان متلازمان، إذا ذكر احدهما قفز إلى الذهن اللفظ الآخر. تحدث البحث عن لفظ النخلة والجذر اللغوي له ودلالة هذه المادة على شرف التسمية وأهميتها، وجاء التعبير القرآني متناغما مع الشكل الذي اتخذته هذه الشجرة، فوصفت بالصنوان وغير الصنوان، وهو ما يعرف بالفسائل التي تولد من الشجرة الأم. ووصفت بذات الأكمام وطلعها نضيد وهضيم وهي ذات قنوان دانية وما إلى ذلك. وجاء ذكر النخلة في القرآن الكريم بغير لفظها؛ إذ عبر عنها بالشجرة الطيبة واللينة وحدائق غلبا، وهذان اللفظان الأخيران مبتكران؛ إذ يعدان من الأسماء الجديدة التي أطلقها القرآن الكريم على النخلة المباركة، بيانا لمكانتها وأهميتها حتى عدت بحق شجرة الحياة، فلم يسمع عن العرب أنهم أطلقوا على هذه الشجرة مثل هذين الاسمين.
The fact that this tree arouses is its semantic dimensions. Iraq is the cradle of all ancient civilizations which ranged thousands of years. The first civilization appeared in this country, even the date of cultivating those palms ranges in centuries. It is as old as man himself. The first known palm appeared in Babylonia four thousand years ago. So Palm is associated always with Iraq. Iraq comes at first in the world in producing and cultivating dates. There is a reference to palm in Hamurabi and is his laws in which he gives some of the outcomes for the sake of protecting the palm- trees. Thus he sentences some fees for those who cut or undo those trees. Hence Iraq and palm are associated together. This research deals with the palm and the root of this name and the importance of this name, hence the explanation of the Holy Quran comes to prove this point and it comes harmoniously with the shape of this tree. So it describes palm as a twin or something like that. Palm begins as a nuclear or bud then it grows into being a palm. So the Holy Quran describes the beauty and elegance of the shape of this kind of trees and the like. The Holy Quran describes and mentions some other names to this palm, it adds that the palm has some other names like "the good tree" or the "greet garden" or the like. Those names are invented by the holy Quran, and now they become something common in the Arabic Language. The holy Quran shows the importance of this palm and the importance of its state. So it is the tree of life. The ancient Arabs never call this tree by mentioning such names.
