يقصد بالحراك السكني هو تغيير محل السكن أو محل الإقامة داخل الحدود الإدارية للمدينة ويطلق عليه أحيانا (الهجرة داخل المدينة) أو (الهجرة الحضرية الداخلية) أو (الانتقال السكني) فالحراك يشير إلى التحركات السكنية داخل حدود المدينة وقد يكون داخل الحي نفسه بحيث لا يتجاوز شارع واحد وهذه التحركات لا ينتج عنها تغيير في العمل ويعد الحراك سمة من سمات الحياة الحضرية التي تمتاز بها كل دول العالم باستمرار وذلك يكون تحت ضغط مجموعة عوامل وأسباب تحث الناس على ترك مساكنهم وكسر صلاتهم بأهلهم وذويهم والانتقال من حي إلى آخر وتتحكم في الحراك السكني جملة من القرارات والأهداف والنوايا والمضلات المكانية التي ترتبط بعدد من المتغيرات والخصائص التي تواجه المتحركين نحو الانتقال إلى مساكنهم.
