In its beginning, the Zionist Movement called for a ‘Jewish State’ for all the Jews of the world. It called it a necessity of life as anti-Semitism and oppression against them were spreading around the globe. It claimed that, unless a special state for Jews to lead their lives freely and independently, the situation would continue forever. This is proved by the writings and arguments of several of the movement’s leaders. However, the new development is that the current Israeli government, led by Netanyahu, has started setting the recognition by the Palestinian negotiators of the Jewish State as a pre-condition to resume talks as well as give the Palestinians some illusionary or secondary gains, which are basic rights for any human being. The present report only discusses three relevant questions. First, is there a clause in the International law which allows for a state to be merely based on religion? Second, what are Israel’s targets of setting the recognition of the Jewish State as a precondition? Third, what are the impacts of such recognition by Palestinian officials? The report finds out that the International Law does not allow Israel to be a racial state for a single religion or ethnicity, as the Zionist Movement claims, at the expense of another nation. In other words, calling Israel a ‘state for Jews’ is a flagrant violation of several international conventions. With reference to the current over-anxiousness to gain approval of the Jewish nature of the state, it is made as a real obstacle to the talks until the Palestinian land is taken and filled with settlements. If the Jewish State is recognized, the Palestinian refugees’ right to return to their homes, cities and village will be harmed, along with their right of compensation for the damage caused by the occupation.
