تكاد تسمية التوكيد تنحصر في درس بعينه في النحو، وهو أحد التوابع الخمسة؛ في حين يتوزع معناه في دروس عديدة لا تجتمع في باب واحد، وذلك بسبب نظرية العامل التي بسطت هيمنتها على النحو العربي، وجعلت التوابع، ومنها التوكيد، في درس واحد، على أساس التبعية في الإعراب، في حين نجد –مثلًا- أنّ "إنّ" المؤكدة قد جاءت مع أخواتها، بعد درس المبتدأ والخبر، ودرست الحال المؤكدة في مبحث الحال، التي تبين الهيئة، ودرست الحروف الزائدة التي تفيد التوكيد ضمن حروف الجر، وهكذا تشتت هذا الدرس تحت أسماء متعددة. ولو أن المعنى هو الذي جمع بينها لرأينا الدروس التي تفيد التوكيد تأتلف في مكان واحد. وقد حاولت هذه الدراسة أن ترصد ما له علاقة بمعنى التوكيد من خلال مظانه المختلفة، سواء أكانت نحوية أم كانت بلاغية أم كانت لغوية، وتوصلت إلى صور من التوكيد بعضها قريب من الذهن، مثل: التوكيد بالمفعول المطلق والحال والتمييز، وبعضها الآخر بعيد المرمى، لا يكاد يفطن له أحد، مثل: التوكيد بالنداء والاستثناء والإشارة، ووضع الظاهر موضع المضمر، وتأكيد المدح بما يشبه الذم، وغيرها كثير. \
The term emphasis may be restricted to a fixed lesson in syntax, namely, one of the five appositives. Its meaning is distributed in several lessons which do not combine in one grouping as a result of the regent theory that dominated Arabic syntax and made appositives including emphasis, in one lesson, on the basis of subordingation in desinential inflection. For example, emphatic 'inna" came with its congnates after the subject and predicate of a nominal clause lesson. The emphatic circumstantial phrase was studied in the topic which shows the state. The additional particles, which signify emphasis, were studied through prepositions. So, this lesson came under several names although the meaning combines them. We can say that the lesson which imply emin one place. This study tried to examine the meaning of emphasis through its different syntactic, rhetoric and linguistic aspects. The study obtained different kinds of emphasis; some are close to the mind such as the emphasis by unrestricted object, circumstantial phrase and specification, and the others are far—reached which are barely noticed such as emphasis by interjection, exception, demonstration, puttying the manifest in place of the hidden, emphasizing the praise in a way similar to dispraise, etc.
