|a تتناول هذه الدراسة بالعرض والتحليل والنقد نظريات الكياسة في الثقافة الغربية، وهي النظريات التي طورها كل من جيفري ليتش Leech (1983) وروبن ليكوف Lakoff (1973) وبرواون وليفنسون Brown and Levinson (1987/1978) وكذلك الأطر المفاهيمية التي تأسست عليها تلك النظريات وهي المبدأ التعاوني الذي صاغه بول جرايس Grice (1975) وثنائية ضمائر القوة والألفة التي طورها براون وجلمان Brown and Gilman (1972) وبعض مفاهيم عالم الاجتماع إيرفنج جوفمان Goffman. يشتمل تناول كل من تلك النظريات على عرض لمقولاتها وتطبيقاتها، ثم عرض للانتقادات التي وجهت إليها. يلي ذلك استخلاص ما بين تلك النظريات من اتفاق واختلاف، وما شاب البحث في موضوع الكياسة عموما من قصور أو تحيز. وفي هذا تستأثر نظرية براون وليفنسون بالجزء الأكبر؛ لأنها أكثر النظريات تأثيرا وشمولا وتفصيلا في تناول موضوع الكياسة. ثم تعرض الدراسة لمشكلات وصور قصور البحث في هذا الموضوع في اللغة العربية، وتقدم بعض التوصيات والمقترحات، وتطرح بعض العناوين التي يمكن تناولها بالبحث في موضوع الكياسة على وجه العموم والكياسة في الثقافة العربية على وجه الخصوص، وتشير في ذلك إلى أهمية تأصيل المفهوم والمصطلح في التراث البلاغي العربي، وكذا أهمية دراسة السياق الثقافي العربي الإسلامي عند التعرض للكياسة بوصفها ممارسة لغوية اجتماعية.
|b This study is primarily a survey of the major models of politeness -Lakoff’ s (1973), Leech’s (1983) and Brown and Levinson’s (1978/1987). These models are different conceptualizations and formulations of a principle of politeness. Any discussion of politeness in Western thought must cover these three conceptualizations in a manner that reflects their relative influence on what may be termed politeness research. In fact, the three conceptualizations cannot be understood adequately without grounding them in the work of Grice (1975) on conversational cooperation and implicatures, Goffman (1959, 1967, 1979, 1981) on face, impression management and deference strategies and Brown and Gilman (1960/1972) on the pronouns of power and solidarity. These are the background (s) which the present review of the three models of politeness takes for granted. The discussion of each model consists of an outline of its main notions and principles, followed by a review of its main applications, if any. Critiques and modifications of the three models are grouped together. A synthesis of the three models and a number of suggestions for future research on politeness at large and politeness in Arabic in particular are also provided. Illustrations from contemporary Arabic of the politeness strategies in Brown and Levinson’s model and comments on the politeness strategies in two formal letters, one in Arabic and another in English, are appended to the study.
