|b This study aims to shed light on the current reality of oil industry in the Arab region, it gives a brief about the history of this industry in each country, and summarizes some of the data on the most important companies operating in each of them. It also illustrates oil and gas reserves and production rates, and refers to the important fields that were/are under focus. \ The study was divided into two parts, the first included the member states of OAPEC, while the second was dedicated to non-member states. \ Attached to the study is a set of tables summarizing some information on the member states, along with the U.S. Geological Survey USGS assessment of the undiscovered petroleum resources in some basins in the Arab countries. Arab proved oil reserves were estimated at 683.6 billion barrels, more than half of the world conventional proved reserves recorded by late 2010. Most of these reserves (98%) is located in OAPEC members. \ Proved gas reserves in Arab countries were estimated at about 54.8 trillion cubic meters (29.1% of world total), with 97% of them found in OAPEC members, i.e. 53.3 trillion cubic meters represent 28.3% of world total proved \ gas reserves. \ Nevertheless, Arab countries produced only 30.4% of world total oil production in 2010. Moreover, Arab marketed gas share was 14.6% of world total by 2009. \ Given the importance of hydrocarbon exports within their development plans, Arab countries endeavor to develop their production capacities, they work hard to explore more resources to support the known reserves. In the same context Arab producers apply the latest technologies to increase the recovery factor, which in turn contributes to the development of reserves of oil and gas. Considering the known reserves and the potential undiscovered resources, it is proved that the Arab region represents a great opportunity waiting for further exploration, especially in the basins set out in Appendix 2 of this study.
