إن الاعتقاد بوجوب نصب إمام للمسلمين يأتمرون بأمره وينتهون بنهيه ويطيعونه بالمعروف فيما هو من حقوقه وخصائصه ولوازم إمامته، لهو أصل من أصول عقيدة أهل السنة والجماعة ومقتضياتها ولو تعددت الأئمة في الأقطار أو كانت إمامته أو ولايته مستندة إلى أسلوب الغلبة والقوة والظفر وحده، يعتبر موضوع لوازم الإمامة من القضايا القديمة والمعاصرة التي أضحت تسري كالدم في الجسد، والتي لا بد من إماطة اللثام عنها، والتأصيل الشرعي لها، بيان فلسفتها، لمواكبة ما يجري من الأحداث في عالمنا العربي. وتهدف الدراسة: إلى بيان أهمية الإمامة في انتظام حياة المجتمع السعودي، وبيان حكم الإمامة في الكتاب والسنة ومنهج السلف الصالح، وتوضيح مواقف الفرق الإسلامية من قضية الإمامة وبيان الآثار المترتبة على الالتزام بها في المملكة العربية السعودية. واشتمل البحث على أربعة مباحث: الأول: حكم الإمامة والمقصد منها. والثاني: بيان منهج السلف في الإمامة. والثالث: مواقف الفرق الإسلامية من قضية الإمامة. أما الرابع فتتضمن الآثار المترتبة على الإمامة في المملكة العربية السعودية. وقد تضمنت الخاتمة أهم النتائج والتوصيات، وبيان منهج السلف الصالح رحمهم الله في الإمامة والحرص على التمسك به؛ لأن نصب الإمامة واجب شرعي على الأمة لإقامة شعائر الدين ونصف المظلومين من الظالمين.
