يعد رسل واحدا من أبرز فلاسفة القرن العشرين ومن المعالم البارزة في الفلسفة عموما، وإن أهمية البحث في الكتابة الفلسفية لدى رسل، هي لفحص الصلة بين مواقفه الفكرية والطرق التي تصاغ بها وزيادة فهمنا لنصه الفلسفي، وللتعرف على شكل من أشكال الكتابة الفلسفية، خاصة ونحن بصدد فيلسوف عرف عنه، أن له منطقه الخاص في عرض أفكاره، وما امتازت به كتاباته من براعة أسلوبه، وجمال عبارته، ودقتها ووضوحها وبساطتها. فقد جعل من العبارة البسيطة الواضحة أداته لتحسين العالم. ولم تأخذ الكتابة الفلسفية لدى رسل شكلا "واحدا" بل تنوعت بين المقالة والمحاضرات والكتب. ويبدو أن المقالة كانت أحد الأشكال التي اعتمدها رسل بشكل كبير في الكتابة، ويمكن لما توفره المقالة من أداة هي أكثر ملاءمة للاستجابة لضغط الأحداث وتلاحق المشكلات، وأبدع رسل في كتابة المقال، التي كانت تتلاءم كشكل من أشكال الكتابة مع فكره، لما توفره من إمكانيات، فكانت أداته التي يستخدمها تارة للمهاجمة، وتارة للتبشير بأفكاره.
Russell is considered as one of most famous philosophers of the twentieth century and in philosophy generally. The importance of the research in the philosophical writing to Russell is to check the relation between ideological attitude and the methods which are formulated of, the increasing of our understanding to his philosophical text, the recognizing one form rather than other in the philosophical writing. We are now talking about a philosopher who is known of his own logic in showing his thoughts and how his writings are distinguished of skillfulness style and beauty of expressions in their authenticity, clarity and simplicity .so, he made from the simple and clear expression his medium to improve the world. Russell's Philosophical writings did not take one form, but they were variety of essays, lectures and books. Considerably, it seem that essay is one form which Russell accounts on in his writings, because as a medium, an essay is the most convenient to respond to the pressure of the events and the followed problems. Russell did well in writing essays which were suitable as one form of writing to his thoughts, and of gaining the capability. So, it was the medium which he used once to attack and once to bring good news of his thinking.
