520 |b Praise be to Allah and peace and blessings be upon the most noble of Mes-sengers Human blood is one of the greatest signs of Allah. He says, "On earth there are signs for those with sure faith—and in yourselves too, do you not see?" And, "We shall show them our signs in every region of the earth and in them-selves, until it becomes clear to them that this is the Truth." This paper comprises an introduction, five chapters, a conclusion and an in-dex. Chapter 1: It comprises the definition of blood, its components, characteris-tics, functions, uses, the benefits of its donation, and miraculousness. Chapter 2: It comprises the ruling for human blood that exits from other than the private parts. There is a scholarly disagreement on whether it is to be considered pure or filth. These opinions are: - Except for menstrual blood, human blood is pure whether or not it exits the body. - Human blood, whatever its amount, is considered filth; this is the opinion of the majority of scholars. - Human blood is considered filth if it exits the body; otherwise it is not con-sidered filth. The preferred opinion is that that which maintains the purity of blood due to the strength of evidences. Chapter 3: It comprises the ruling for (human] blood therapy. The predomi-nant opinion is its permissibility if it is curative and there is no other alterna¬tive cure. The opinion that rejects the permissibility of (human] blood thera¬py is supported by weak evidences. Chapter 4: It comprises the ruling for selling human blood. It is unlawful for a person to sell his own blood or one of his body organs. The reason is to preserve human kind, maintain its value and honor, and block the means to wasting human life. Numerous prohibiting evidences are found in the Qur'an, sunnah, and ijma' (scholarly consensus). Chapter 5: It comprises the ruling for donating human blood. Blood donation is among the best means of drawing close to our Creator. It is necessary for the people because it saves the lives of patients and the injured, a matter that is recommended in Islam and for which one earns a great reward. Nu-merous evidences for the permissibility of donating blood are derived from the Qur'an, sunnah, and through qiyas (analogy). Blood donation does not give rise to the prohibition of marriage between the donor and donee as is the case with nursing. Blood donation is permissible when there is a neces--sity.
