The traits of avidant (anxious) personality disorder were observed to be common among alcohol dependents. These include a persistent pattern of social withdrawal leading to hypersensitivity to rejection, fear of criticism, low self-esteem, sense of shame. The present study aimed at the identification of the prevalence rates of avoid and disorder among alcohol dependents compared to the gen¬eral population, in addition to the identification of the significance of differences between the dependents. The study sample include (142) subjects, (71) of whom were alco¬hol dependents. The control group were officials and employee gath¬ered from a number of governmental establishments. The avoidant personality disorder scale were prepared according to the diagnostic criteria of the international classification of Mental and Behavioral Disorder(ICD-10) Alcohol dependence scale was prepared also the study revealed that avoidant personality disorders is prevalent among (23.9%) of the study sample of alcohol dependents. These were significantly higher than prevalence rates among the control group. No statistically significant differences were observed among Alcohol dependents in the rates in the avoidant personality disorder regarding the demographic variables. The results have been discussed. A number of recommendation and suggestions were included.
