المستخلص: The Orientalists pay much attention to Arabic literature generally and the poetry of iliteral era particularly. The reason behind that is the parity, strength, and beauty of their poetry. These features are acquired from the strength, beauty, quietness and purity of the desert. In spite of the simplicity of its life it is full of joy and excitness, as it is deseribed by the poetry of iliteral era. Therefore every suspended poem is translated to many language all over the world, because it captures audience and attracts them. That's why the researcher traces the background of the poetry of iliteral era and has chosen the path of English Orientalists to stand upon what they had reached in their study and investigation. The researcher has started this study since 2005, when he has tackled with the criticism and analysis of the great English Orientalists Charles Layll. Later the researcher continues studying his followers Marjiluth, Nichilson and Krinko. Tha dissertation is entitled "The efforts of English Orientalists in studying pre-Islamic poetry: Analysis and criticism" it consists introduction, and two parts, each part consists of two chapters. Chapter one includes the history and Arabic narration of poetry before Islam. Chapter two contains the merits of Arabic poets according to Nicklson points of view. Chapter three is is adopted for their investigationefforts. Chapter four shows the investigation balance between Arabic and English poets. This study encounters many obstacles as a result of the lack of the main references related to old Orientalists works. But the researcher has done his best to achieve this study as much as he can to attract readers' attention.
