المستخلص: The main purpose of this study is to investigate how the value of Saudi Arabia’s cultural heritage could be increased and whether there is potential to include it within the Art Education curriculum. The impact of local geography on the ancient culture of this region is also explored. The system of education in Saudi Arabia is considered from the perspective of art teaching and learning, which provides insight into what the nation values, since the importance of oil began to take hold. My concern about institutional neglect of ancient artistic and cultural treasures provided the central focus for this investigation, which began with the author being challenged on a number of fronts. Another purpose of this narrative is to investigate possibility and imagination in relation to cultural and educational practices in mono-cultural Saudi Arabia. The study points to the potential of contemporary technology that might offer education a way forward by providing attention and access to the ancient sites and artefacts that currently lay unattended and unnoticed.
