Urban Katsina were stratified in five sampling location namely; G.R.A Katsina, Abatua Quarters, Kofar Sauri Quarters, Kerau Quarters and Kofar Marusa Layout. The portable water collected from the five sampling location are, Tap, Open wells, Borehole, and Sachet water. In all the five locations, a sample of four sources of portable water was taken, making a total of five samples of each of the four sources of portable water in the study area. Hence, in total, twenty five (25) water samples were taking from the four sources of portable water in the study area. The parameters tested in the portable water samples are: pH, Electrical conductivity (E.C.), Total Dissolved Solid (TDS), Turbidity, Total Hardness, Alkalinity, Chloride (Cl) and Iron (Fe). The data generated was tabulated and statistically analyzed using means and Bar graph. The results from the chemical analysis indicated that the pH, EC, Turbidity, Alkalinity, Cl, and Fe values of the various portable water samples are within the acceptable limits (WHO, 2004) for safe drinking water. The value of Total Dissolved Solid in the analysed portable water samples is above the maximum permissible for a safe drinking water. The Total Hardness in tap, borehole, and sachet values of the portable water samples is within the acceptable limit (WHO, 2004) for safe drinking water. But it is above the recommended limit in the open well water sample in the study area. However, almost all the portable water samples analysed in Katsina Urban area were found to be within the recommended limit by WHO (2004). Therefore it can be regarded as safe for public consumption.
