فرضت تطبيقات الويب 2.0 وخصوصًا الشبكات الاجتماعية نفسها بشكل كبير على حياتنا اليومية، ويستعان بها في العديد من الأمور المهمة والمفيدة مثل التواصل العلمي والاجتماعي بين أعضاء هيئة التدريس والطلاب، وقد كان لها عظيم الأثر في تطوير العلاقة العلمية والمهنية للعديد من الطلاب، واستخدام الشبكات الاجتماعية في أمور تعليمية صار شيئًا ضروريًا بالنسبة للمجتمعات العربية وواقع يجب الاستفادة من جوانبه الحسنة ومحاولة غض البصر عن الجوانب السيئة لمثل هذه الشبكات الواسعة الانتشار، وفي هذا البحث تم عمل تجربة باستخدام شبكة الفيسبوك والأكثر انتشارًا وشعبية بين الطلاب وغيرهم في إعداد مجموعتين خاصتين بطالبات جامعة أم القرى كلية العلوم الاجتماعية قسم علم المعلومات في مادتي التكشيف والاستخلاص ونظم استرجاع المعلومات يهدف للتواصل العملي والاجتماعي من خلالهما، وقد لاقت التجربة نجاحا واضحا من إقبال الطالبات على الاشتراك في المجموعتين والاستفادة من تواصل عضوة هيئة التدريس معهن في التكليفات والتعليمات المختلفة والأخبار وعناصر المحاضرات وقد اشتراك العديد من الطالبات في وضع بعض الملاحظات والرد على الدكتورة والوصول إلى العديد من الأمور غير الواضحة بالنسبة لهن. وقد أجريت الباحثة استبيانًا للطالبات عن طريق موقع استبيان الكتروني تم نشره على المجموعتين في الفيسبوك وقامت الطالبات بالرد على الاستفسارات لتوضح هل استفادت الطالبات من التواصل خلال هاتين المجموعتين؟ ومدى الاستفادة التي تحققت لهن بالمشاركة من خلال اطروحات قمن بوضعها على المجموعات للتواصل بينهن وبين الدكتورة. وكانت أهم النتائج أن الطالبات سألت عضوات وأعضاء هيئة التدريس التواصل من خلال الشبكات الاجتماعية معهن لسهولة الاتصال وسهولة طرح الاستفسارات والإجابة عليها وإعطاء التكليفات وغيرها.
