إن الفنان السليم هو أحد رواد الحركة التشكيلية في الفن السعودي، فقد أثرى الساحة الفنية بإبداعاته الفكرية وأساليبه الفنية المتنوعة والمتأثرة بالطبيعة والتراث مما أكد ذاته وأسلوبه المنفرد بقدر رؤيته التي أثبت فيها أنه تجاوز مراحل التقليد أو التأثر في مراحل متقدمة من التجديد فكانت مدرسته الفكرية الخاصة به والتي أسماها بالأفقية والتي تحمل أبعاد لا نهائية في الرؤية من خلال خطوط وهمية تلتقي عند نقاط متعددة على سطح الأرض والخط الواحد في تقابل وتقاطع في آن واحد. وقد قام البحث على دراسة مدى تأثر الفنان السليم بالطبيعة والتراث في أعماله التشكيلية التي حاولت الباحثة من خلال دراسة سيرته الذاتية وأعماله التشكيلية للوصول إلى التعرف على الفنان وأسلوبه ودوره الفني في إبراز الحركة التشكيلية السعودية، والكشف عن العوامل والمؤثرات التي كونت رؤيتها الفنية لمذهب الأفقية كصاحب تجربة مبتكرة في الفن التشكيل السعودي، وبيان أثر البيئة والتراث السعودي في أعماله واستخلاص القيم الفنية والتعبيرية لهذا المذهب. فافترضت الباحثة أنه من الممكن الإفادة من القيم الفنية والتعبيرية لمذهب الأفقية للفنان دعم وإثراء الجانب الجمالي في التشكيل الخزفي وترى الباحثة إمكانية وضع تصور فكري للهيئات التشكيلية الخزفية. وقد اشتملت الدراسة على ثلاث محاور كالتالي: • المحور الأول: ويشمل السيرة الذاتية والشخصية الإبداعية لدى الفنان "محمد موسى السليم" ومصادر استلهامه، والتعرب على الفنان ونشأته ودراسته للفن التشكيلي ودراسة شخصيته الإبداعية ومدى تأثره بالبيئة والتراث كمصادر استلهام في أعماله التشكيلية لتحقيق رؤيته الفنية. • المحور الثاني: ويشمل البعد التجريبي في أعمال الفنان، وابتكاره لمذهب الأفقية والكشف عن مضمونة التعبيري والفني من خلال وصف وتحليل لمختارات من أعماله. • المحور الثالث: ويشمل دعم وإثراء التشكيل الخزفي بالقيم التعبيرية والفنية لمذهب الأفقية من خلال تصور فكري لإشكال خزفية.
