On December 9-10, 2014 the MESC organized a special symposium titled Arab-Israeli Conflict Shifts after 2014 War on Gaza. It was joined by about a hundred experts, academics and political activists from Jordan and Palestine. The opening and Session One were held in the Regency Palace, followed by the other proceedings of Day One in MESC’s Conference Hall. The event is based on the premise that the battle constituted a turning point in the history of the Arab-Israeli war since the 1940’s. The Palestinian resistance had a distinguished military, security and media performance, which surprised the Israelis. The Gazans also gave a good example of steadfast people who supported and protected the resistance in the face of the Hebrew State’s devastating power. On the other hand, the latter tried to cover its failure of calculation and performance by killing civilians as well as destroying buildings and infrastructures. The opening speeches explored five main topics: 1. Gaza war shifts (parties’ strengths and weaknesses) 2. Shifts in performance (military, security and media) 3. Shifts in political performance in light of 2014 Gaza war 4. 2014 Gaza war repercussions 5. 2014 Gaza war future scenarios. A conclusion and a number of recommendations were made at the end. First, the Palestinian cause is still the common interest to gather the Arab political powers with the ruling elites. Second, the cost of confrontation to end the Israeli occupation of the Arab and Palestinian land is very much less than keeping it and holding peace treaties with it in financial, political and security terms. Third, the breakthrough of this battle in ending the occupation could be a major step for stability and significant development in the Arab World. The participants called for expanding and deepening the concept of resistance, developing its tools and getting rid of the Oslo agreements’ restrictions, in order to launch a Palestinian national integrated roadmap at all levels, mainly political, security and military.
