This study aims at casting light on one of the important aspects of the ancient Sudanese personalities, as brave soldiers, from ancient times till the Arab conquest of Egypt. The study tries to trace the role of the Cushite soldiers in the Egyptian political and military affairs since the struggle for the unification of Egypt and the rise of the Pharoahs, and their role in maintaining that unity till the first half of the last millennium BC. The study also explains how the Cushites participated in the protection of Egypt against foreign invaders such as the Libyans, the Assyrians and the Romans. The role of some prominent Cushite leaders in the political and military affairs and the conflicts between the ruling dynasties is also discussed, such as the role of “May Ho Bry” during the reign of Queen Hatshabsut, the role of the family of “Horemheb” during the reign of Thutmosis IV, and the role of “Panehsi” in the period of Ramses XI.
