|b 2010 Elections in Sudan: Post or Pre-conflict Elections? \ The expectations surrounding the 2010 elections in Sudan, for many people, were very high: they were meant to be part of the democratic transformation which in turn meant to be the root solution for the overall Sudan conflict over wealth and power sharing. In relation to South Sudan, another expectation was added: This democratization meant to make unity attractive before South Sudan referendum for self- determination. These elections, according to this paper, did not only make these expectations false, but also contributed to the renewal of war in Sudan, especially in South Kordofan and Blue Nile. The 2010 elections were conducted as part of the conflict resolution of the 2005 peace agreement. This paper uses conflict and peace studies approach as its theoretical base to give a different overview compared to other studies. The paper starts by reviewing the main writings on Sudanese elections and then proceeds to study the 2010 elections in the context of conflict resolution and ends by showing how these elections can better be seen as pre-conflict elections rather than post-conflict elections
