المستخلص: This study aims to examine the characteristics of internal migrants in Khartoum State using the 2008 census data. Khartoum state was selected as study area as it was the most receiving state. Understanding the characteristics of internal migrants and in what ways they differ from their non-migrant counterparts, enables to design evident-based policies that contribute in mitigating population movement. The findings revealed that age and sex selectivity of internal migration, in that the majority of migrants were males and in the age group 19-24, the proportion illiterate, however, was higher among migrants and male non migrant have higher educational attainment than that of male migrant. Female non-migrants were having higher educational attainment than that of female migrants; though university graduates were more among female migrants. The majority of male migrants were unmarried whereas the majority of female migrants were married . The proportion engaged in work among male migrants was much less than that of their non-migrant counterparts and very few female migrants and female non-migrants were working during the last week preceding the census. Over two thirds of migrants and non-migrant females work as full time home workers. The most sending regions were Central region, Kurdofan, Northern and Darfur region
