رأى العديد من الدارسين أن نشأة النقد الأدبي عند العرب ارتكزت على ما وصل إليه النقد الأدبي اليوناني من نضوج وشمولية ، ليس ذلك فحسب بل هنالك من زعم – طه حسين ومن سار في ركبه - أن النقد الأدبي عند العرب عالة على النقد اليوناني!. وقد رأيت أن الادعاء بأن النقد العربي استمد الكثير من أصوله من النقد اليوناني يستدعي البحث في مراحل تطور النقد اليوناني ، وللتعرف على أوجه اهتمامه ، ثم تتبع ما طرأ عليه من إضافات على أيدي الرومانيين النقاد ، وذلك لكي يسهل على الدارس دحض ذلك الادعاء بمجرد الاطلاع على تاريخ نشأة النقد الأدبي عند العرب فتطوره بعيداً عن الأصول النقدية اليونانية . فالاطلاع على اختلاف ظروف نشأة النقدين- اليوناني والعربي- وتباعد المباحث واختلاف القضايا وطرق معالجتها سيمكن الدارس من تبيين أصالة آراء النقاد العرب ، والوقوف على نقودهم وملاحظاتهم الجزئية التي تعكس آنية المعالجة وواقعيتها ، ونظراتهم التي تدل على تأمل ورصد لأصول الفنون الشعرية ، ومحاولات تجويدها المستمرة التي تدل على تشابك جهودهم وأصالة نظراتهم ونقودهم . ولأن العديد من الدارسين المعاصرين باتوا يرددون تلك المزاعم بدون الرجوع إلى النقد اليوناني والاطلاع على مباحثه واتجاهاته رأيت أخوض غمار هذا البحث ، وقد تتبعت فيه مراحل نشأة النقد اليوناني ، واستقرأت آراء أفلاطون ، ثم جهود أرسطو ومؤلفاته وما أثاره من قضايا النقد الأدبي ، ثم انتهيت إلى جهود الرومان في المحافظة على النقد اليوناني ، وما أضافوه مباحث وقضايا تتصل بواقعهم .
Many students think that the Arab Literary Criticism was originated and based on the mature and comprehensive Greek literary criticism. Moreever, some _ Taha Hussein and his followers - claim that the Arab literary criticism is dependent on the Greek criticism . As I see it , the claim that the Arab criticism got a lot of its origins from the Greek criticism ,needs researching into the stages of development of the Greek criticism , finding out its facets , tracing what the Roman critics had added to it , so as the student can easily denounce that claim as soon as he /she gets acquainted with the historical origin of Arab literary criticism and its development , away from the Greek critical origins .Knowledge of the different circumstances of the origins of both criticisms - Greek criticism and Arab criticism – and realizing the differences between them in the subjects ,subject matter , and the ways of approaching them , will enable the student to acknowledge the originality of the Arab critic's views , to know their criticisms and their partial notes which reflect their direct and real approach , their comments that are indicative of contemplation and realization of the bases of writing poetry , their continuous attempts to improve them which shows cooperation , and originality of their views and criticisms . As many of contemporary students still repeat these claims without referring to the Greek criticism , studying its subjects and trends , I have decided to go through this research . I traced the stages of development of the Greek criticism , reviewed Plato's views , the efforts and works of Aristotle , and all what he had said about literary criticism . Finally , I reviewed the efforts of the Romans to preserve the Greek criticism , and the subjects which they added that were closely related to their life .a
