تبدأ الدراسة باستعراض أبرز نتائج القمة العالمية للمعلومات بمرحلتيها في جنيف 2003م، وتونس 2005م والتأكيد على سمات وخصائص مجتمع المعلومات والمبادئ الأساسية له وأهمية النفاذ للمعلومات والمعرفة وبناء قدرات المواطن ودعم مرافق المعلومات، ومن ثم تمهيد الطريق لبناء مجتمع المعرفة. كما تنتقل الدراسة من مبادرات القمة العالمية لإلقاء الضوء على أهم الأفكار الواردة في تقرير اليونسكو الصادر بعنوان "من مجتمع المعلومات إلى مجتمعات المعرفة". ثم تتقدم الدراسة من تقرير اليونسكو نحو مفهوم "تكامل المعرفة" وتطبيقاته في البيئة الإلكترونية بصفة عامة والمكتبات الرقمية على وجه الخصوص، حيث تستعرض الدراسة بعض التجارب في هذا السياق. وأخيرا تلقي الدراسة الضوء على أحدث المشروعات في مجال تجميع وتنظيم وإتاحة المعرفة العالمية وهو مشروع المكتبة الرقمية العالمية. والمشروع مبادرة من مكتبة الكونجرس ومنظمة اليونسكو تم الإعلان عنها رسميا في ديسمبر 2006م بمدينة باريس. كما عقد اللقاء الثاني في أكتوبر 2007م في المدينة نفسها. وسوف تتناول الدراسة فكرة المشروع وأهدافه مع التركيز على سياسة اختيار المحتوى للمكتبة العالمية بصفة عامة، والتصور المقترح من جانب الباحث بشأن سياسة لانتفاء المحتوى تضمن تكامل المعرفة من خلال هذا المشروع العالمي.
The study stresses at the beginning the main result of the World Summit for Information Society (WSIS) during its two sessions ; in Geneva the year 2003, and in Tunis the year 2005. It emphasizes the characteristics and the rules of the information society, along with the importance to move forward towards information and knowledge, and build the citizen’s capabilities and support information tools, leading, leading thus the way to build the Knowledge Society. The study then shifts to shad the light on the most important ideas mentioned in UNESCO Report entitled : «From information society to knowledge societies)). It then moves towards the concept of «Knowledge integration)) with its applications within the general electronic environment, and then within the particular frame of digital libraries, showing thus some experiments in this field. Finally, this study deals with the major projects which aim at gathering, regulating and providing world knowledge. This letter is indeed the project of the World Digital Library (WDL) created by both the Library of Congress and UNESCO and official announced in Paris in december 2006. A second meeting took place in the same capital in 2007. This study makes reference to this project and to its objectives, and stresses the politics behind the choice of the contents of the World Library in general, and the suggestions that might be made by the researcher about content selection, assuring thus knowledge integration through this world project.
