|b The goddess Sekhmet “Sḫmt,” “the Powerful One”, the Eye of Re, the Fury, the One Who Has “Flame” against the enemies to destroy them . She is the divine force as rages, she is also one of the Sky goddesses, the force of violence and unexpected disaster. Sekhmet was considered a mother of the kings and protected them especially the moment at the beginning of the New Year. Since the Old Kingdom she was considered as the goddess of war and was adored in many places throughout ancient Egypt. She appeared as a woman with the head of a lion enthroned on a seat and resembling the Pharaoh himself. The King Amenhotep III erected hundreds of her statues of grey diorite crowned with solar disks, and inscribed with his names. W. R. Johnson considered the great number of Sekhmet’s statues a true mystery, and said that: “undoubtedly related to the role of the King as the pacifier of this fiery eye”. A lot of those statues have been discovered in in the temple of Mut often referred to as the Mut precinct in Karnak. Other statues were discovered in his mortuary temple on the West bank of Thebes Other statues yet are found scattered throughout the land from Àlexandria to Aswan, or are exhibited in Museums. This paper will focus on the purpose of the relationship between King Amenhotep III and Sekhmet.
