The paper investigates the relationship between the poet's personal life and his interest in the Greek, oriental mythology and art especially Chinese culture and art, his uses of images such as the Chinese ideograms, his theory of art and his political and social views. Pound was very important to modernism as an individual and as a poet. He developed so many styles of poetic writing and helped in promoting many artists, He published his poetry in many magazines and helped other writers to publish their poetry as well. He and T. S. Eliot were standing as big figures in the new movement. They tried, though they were young, to establish their new and authentic voices. Tradition not only was the main source on which they based their writing but also was important in a society struggling to live and survive and find a new meaning for existence Ezra Pound was highly influenced by the Greek and oriental cultures. The Cantos which he wrote during his life reflect his interest in these influential cultures. Pound’s Cantos are considered a journey of writing in which his philosophical, economical, literary and political views are stated. Many themes are discussed and presented in the Cantos such as the theme of history, war. dictatorship, injustice, class differences, communism, capitalist system, financial mistreatment, usury, suffering, death and resurrection, and many other themes- Also, The fascination of the historical figures are so clear in these Cantos such as Mussolini. Hitler, Dante, Caesar, Robert Browning and many other. The Cantos are a great example of modem and postmodern poetry because the poet's experimental techniques are fully employed . The Cantos impose a challenge for the readers because of its thematic and linguistic difficulty and the shades of ambiguity .
