يبين هذا البحث رؤيا الحراث بيرز في قصيدة وليام لانقلاند، حيث ترسم الرؤيا العلاقة بين الإنسان وعالمه الاجتماعي والاقتصادي، وعالمه الروحي، مبينة الصراع بين هذين العالمين، وإمكانية التوفيق بينهما للعيش في عالم دون استثناء الآخر. تتمثل رؤيا هذا الرجل في العمل الصادق الدؤوب الذي يكون القدوة الحسنة والخلاص الروحي للفرد لكي يصبح مواطنا صالحا نقي الروح والجسد من خلال العمل الصادق والأجر العادل وحب الإنسان للإنسان. This essay treats the "Visio", and the "Vita" in William Longland's Peirs Plowman. The Visio and the Vita illustrate the relationship between man's socio-economic life and his spiritual life, which are in conflict with one another. The ideal of the Visio theme is the honest plowman, Piers, from whom society may learn the ideals of religion, and how the individual should behave in society to accomplish the perfect salvation and absolution of the soul through labour, just wages, and through the love of mankind. Langland uses Piers to express his opinions about the way things should be, and the dreamer, Will, to express his flawed humanity, which causes him to stumble away from his ideals. Piers' 'swevene' or vision is viewed as a reflection and a protest of the tensions of man's daily activities, his longings, desires, needs, and aggressions - those he is either unable or unwilling to express during his waking hours. |
