Though a plethora of related literature stressed the interwoven relation between learning a foreign language and its culture, there seems to be a lack in the incorporation of target cultural components into the teaching materials of EFL in Egypt. This study aimed at assessing the effect of the explicit teaching of culturally-laden reading selections on promoting cross-cultural understanding among (40) Egyptian EFL college students. By using a pre-post-test design, as well as a post-study questionnaire, this research investigated how the participants could successfully interpret common behaviors and traditions pertinent to the American culture. Cultural instruction lasted for 12 weeks and yielded positive effects as indicated by students' significant gains on the posttest. Also, results of the post study questionnaire revealed an overwhelming desire among the participants to include cultural topics as a regular component of the English language program.
