Monetary policy is an important component in the context of a much larger national economic policy. By the mid- 1990s, inflation targeting had been adopted by a number of countries and had become the subject of considerable academic interest In February of 1991, the Bank of Canada and the government of Canada jointly announced targets of Canadian Monetary Policy that was mainly focusing on the control of inflation, making Canada the second country in the world (after New Zealand) to adopt this new framework for monetary policy. There were a number of important elements in this approach to policy that were either announced at the time or were articulated over the following years. These included such matters as the - percent range, the distinction between core and total (or headline). This paper is presenting a summary of Canadian Monetary Policy.
