This study pays tribute to Arab scholars who played major roles in developing the study of language. It sheds light on the science of linguistics, 'Fiqh Allughah', in two different eras in Arabic history: the 4th--5th centuries of Hijrah, 10th -11th centuries AD, and the 10th -11th centuries of Hijrah, the 16th - 17 centuries AD, represented by Ibn Faris and Alsiyuuti. Two books are selected for examination of their work, consecutively: Alsahibi and Almuzhir. which are to be compared with different books and theories of their modem Western counterparts. For this purpose, the paper is divided into eight sections. The first offers a general idea about the linguists examined in this study, and other related issues like the history of linguistics, definition of language, etc. The second examines certain phonetic and phonological issues; the third deals with issues in dialectology, the fourth with selected semantic topics, the fifth with some pragmatic issues, the sixth and the seventh with morphological and syntactic topics. Finally, the results and findings are presented in the eighth section.
