The shape of measured or design life distributions of systems can vary considerably, and therefore frequently cannot be approximated by simple distribution functions. In the last few decades, finite mixture models have often been used for describing complex statistical problems. In finite mixture models, maximum likelihood estimators have good properties, such as efficiency, consistency, and asymptotic normality; these conditions are frequently not easy to check because complex computations on bounding a lot of derivatives are involved. This article presents a study of the mixture of two inverses Weibull (IW) distributions each having two parameters. The object of the paper is to give suitable estimates of the four unknown parameters using the method of Maximum Likelihood estimation for different sample sizes.
