يقوم هذا البحث على دراسة أصل من أصول اللغة، وهو ((ظاهرة الاشتقاق عند مجمع اللغة العربية بالقاهرة))، إذ أصدر مجمع اللغة العربية بالقاهرة قرارات في الاشتقاق ولاسيما في الصيغ الصرفية والاشتقاق من أسماء الأعيان استناداً على ما جاء به أعضاؤه من بحوث ودراسات ومقترحات عن طريق مذكراتهم المقدمة إلى اللجان المختصة في المجمع، وهذه القرارات فتحت باباً كبيراً أمام الدارسين والباحثين والمترجمين في الدراسات اللغوية الحديثة. إذ نجد أعضاء المجمع يكرسون جهدهم في دراسة ظواهر اللغة ولاسيما السماع والقياس والاشتقاق وما يطرأ عليها من تطور وإنماء في الصيغ الصرفية والألفاظ والأساليب والتراكيب اللغوية؛ فهم يعملون ليل نهار لخدمة هذه اللغة ومواكبة مسيرتها في التطور الحضاري. وتناول هذا البحث في بدايته: معنى الاشتقاق لغة واصطلاحاً وبالمعنيين العلمي والعملي، وأنواع الاشتقاق عند القدماء والمحدثين، وقياسية الاشتقاق العام وفوائد وشروط الاشتقاق العام، والأمثلة عليه، والاشتقاق الكبير وأنواعه: أولاً: القلب المكاني عند القدماء والمحدثين. ثانياً: الإبدال عند القدماء والمحدثين. والأسباب التي أدت إلى الإبدال، والأمثلة عليه من المعجم الوسيط، ثم تحدثنا عن الاشتقاق الأكبر عند القدماء والمحدثين، وانتقلنا إلى موضوع الاشتقاق في دائرة مجمع اللغة العربية بالقاهرة، وقسمناه على ثلاثة محاور: الأول: قرارات المجمع في الاشتقاق وأنواعه. الثاني: جهود أعضاء المجمع في ظاهرة الاشتقاق وأنواعه. الثالث: أخطاء الوسيط في ألفاظ الاشتقاق. ثم انتقلنا بعد ذلك إلى بيان أثر المجاز في ألفاظ الاشتقاق في المعجمات المجمع. واعتمدنا في دراسة هذا الموضوع على قرارات مجمع اللغة العربية بالقاهرة، وعلى البحوث والمحاضرات الخاصة بأعضاء المجمع، وعلى كتب القدماء الخاصة في مواطن التأصيل، وكتب الدارسين المحدثين، وعلى المعجمات اللغوية الخاصة بالمجمع. وبعد أن اختتمنا دراستنا هذا الموضوع بأهم النتائج التي توصلنا إليها.
