ما من شك في أن المعالجات النقدية التي أثرى بها نقادنا العرب القدماء المكتبة النقدية العربية من خلال مؤلفاتهم التي حملت نضجا في المنهج والمعالجة أسهمت وبشكل فاعل في استثارة اهتمام الدارسين والباحثين المحدثين الذين عكفوا على دراسة معطيات تلك الطروحات النقدية لذلك الجمع من رواد النقد العربي القديم كل يدلي بدلوه في هذا المضمار تبعا لزاوية الرصد التي تبناها سبيلا للكشف عن مكامن الإبداع في نقد تلك الحقبة. وكان الجرجاني من بين أبرز النقاد العرب الذين استأثروا باهتمام الباحثين قديما وحديثا ولاسيما طروحاته النقدية بشأن الإعجاز القرآني وما يتصل بذلك من معالجات بناها على أساس نظرية النظم التي فتحت آفاقها على يديه واكتمل نضجها عبر طروحاته التي قرن فيها التنظير بالتطبيق. وهو ما دفعنا إلى الاستئثار بجانب آخر من معالجات هذا الناقد للإرث الشعري العربي إلا وهو نقد الشعر الجاهلي فكان حصيلة استقرائنا لما وقع عليه اختياره من نصوص تعود لتلك المرحلة ضمنها كتابيه دلائل الإعجاز وأسرار البلاغة تغليبه الجانب الفني في نقده لنصوص تلك المرحلة إذا ما أخذنا في الحسبان انتقائه نصوصا متميزة ومتفردة في النظم والصياغة اشتملت على فنون بلاغية كالتشبيه والاستعارة والكناية فضلا عن المجاز إذ حاول إبراز انعكاسات تضمين الشاعر خطابه أحد تلك الفنون على المعنى. ومما تجدر الإشارة إليه أن اتخاذ عبد القاهر منهجا عقليا في بعض ما استند إليه من تعليلات لاستحسان هذا الخطاب أو ذاك كان مقترنا بإحساس فني دقيق بمواطن الجمال في فن القول وهو ما يفسر تفرده بتحليل وتفسير بعض النصوص الشعرية التي أتى على معالجة مضامينها الفنية من سبقه من النقاد، حتى لأنه وقف في بعض من قراءاته موقف المناقش والمحاكم لآراء من سبقه ملمحا إلى أن "معنى المعنى" يقوم على مستويات متفاوتة في التأثير والدلالة معا بنظرة عميقة شاملة تدل على عمق نفسي فكري في آن. وربما كان هذا الشيء الجديد في منهجه النقدي على وفق رأي ناقد محدث، فكانت مواقفه النقدية إزاء النصوص الشعرية بعامة والجاهلية بخاصة صدى لنظراته البلاغية لا غاية في نفسها
