The present study aims at investigating the characteristics of the urban environment of Shatt A I-Arab city. It reveals some of the urbanite indicators as well as the demographic, economic, and social changes related to its inhabitants through discussing the following aspects - A historical view of the city name and its growth. - The main characteristics of the population of the city, - The main characteristics of the natural environment of this region. - The uses of the urban land, The study reveals the following inferences and results:- - Relatively. the city is regarded as one of the ancient regions, though it has not had the urban aspects that are found in some cities within this region, it has originated during a period known by the existence of ancient castles. - The paper has relied on the patterns of building. The mansions were of oriental style and the building material was brick (average 15.3% ) - The rising in the population of the city can be clearly seen through examining some indicators which show that a group of families are living in one house. - It is impossible to apply the principle of competition between the ancient and modern within the urban scope of the city due to its narrow volume and the absence of a clear existential intrusion among its divergent functions composing to what has been happening in some of its central stability.
