The purpose of this paper is to review the literature on the role of educational technology in order to understand what people mean by its use and value. It survey the history, and the role of educational technology including the impact of IT, in the teaching and learning process in higher education from their opponents and supporters different perspectives. The study employed both document analysis and evaluative methods of analyzing data. Finding of the literature survey on the role of educational technology indicated that the contribution and effectiveness of educational technology in the teaching and learning process has not been positively supported or rejected by researchers. This is probably due to the fact that, educational technology itself is not a solution for all educational problems, especially in the enhancement of students’ achievement
