The current study aims to identify the most important challenges facing women academic leaders within higher education institutions in Saudi Arabia, and to identify the degree of contribution provided by training seminars that are delivered by the Institute of Public Administration (IPA). These training programs aim to provide academic leaders with the knowledge and skills that enable them to meet the challenges of the leadership role efficiently and effectively. The study was implemented on a sample of (400) academic leaders who participated in the seminars presented at the Institute of Public Administration, and the number of questionnaires recovered, suitable for analysis was (213), which represents a response rate of (53.25%) of the total questionnaires distributed. The most significant findings of the study were as follows: The organizational challenges ranked the first in importance in regard to the challenges facing women academic leaders. This was followed by physical and technical challenges, thirdly was the lack of empowerment. Cultural challenges ranked fourth in importance, and fifth and last were the personal challenges. Also, the results of the study showed that the training seminars provided the women academic leaders with knowledge and skills necessary to practice their leadership role significantly, in addition to its role in contributing to the empowerment of academic leaders to face the challenges of the leadership role effectively. On the other hand, the results identified the most important training needs of the academic leaders. The study made a set of recommendations for dealing with all kinds of challenges, in addition to some general recommendations that may contribute to overcoming the challenges and empowerment of women academic leadership in women>s higher education institutions in Saudi Arabia
